Award sponsored by the Bank of Travelers Rest
Our “Citizen of the Year,” Mr. Clyde Carr, has been described as “A hard working man of astute character who maintains a consistent example in his daily walk and is always willing to help others with a pleasant character and self-less giving way”.
He has been active in the Travelers Rest and surrounding area for as long as most of us can remember as a business owner, through his involvement with his church, as a community leader and as a supporter of local charities.
He has served on the board of the YMCA for Northern Greenville County and currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the North Greenville Food Crisis Ministry.
He is a member of the St. Johns United Methodist Church where he is Chairman of the Church Council. He also serves as a Sunday School Teacher, Children’s Coordinator, is a member of the Church Choir and occasionally preaches.
An avid Golfer he started an annual Golf Tournament which he has carried on for 42 years. Originally the tournament was a means of raising money to build a new sanctuary at St. Johns United Methodist Church. Now with over 60 players the tournament helps support not only the church but also the Food Crisis Ministry.
Most recently our “Citizen of the Year” was named Hometown Hero by the Modern Woodmen of the World and Mayor Roy Reynolds proclaimed September 29, 2009 his day.
Please join me in recognizing the only man that I know who has a day named for him, Mr. Clyde Carr.
